Reflections from 2010 Confirmation home groups PDF Print E-mail
Sacramental_symbols160 children will be confirmed by Bishop David Walker next Saturday September 11 in the churches of St Cecilia and St Kieran.

Please remember these children and their families in your prayers as they continue on their journey to full initiation into our faith community.

Here are some comments from the home groups where the families meet each week...

"We toasted marshmallows on candles this week, as we explored the effects of fire and to show how fire is used for cooking."

"It is wonderful to watch them participating in the sessions and we as adults are also learning a lot through how our children relate to God."

Pastor's Desk PDF Print E-mail

pete_pastors_desk_90Bishop David presided at the parish Vigil Eucharist last weekend. It is therefore opportune to reflect on the role of the bishop in our Catholic tradition. In the solemn ceremonies at the consecration of a bishop we read the following words:

"May his preaching and speaking be not with the plausible words of human wisdom, but with demonstration of the Spirit and power. Give him, O Lord, the keys of the kingdom of heaven, so that he may exercise his authority without glorying in it, since you bestow it not for destruction but for edification; so that all that he binds on earth may be bound also in heaven, and all that he looses on earth may be retained, and those that he forgives may be forgiven."

Weekly announcements PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 05 September 2010 21:49

announcements * In a few weeks the parish will hold its Inquiry session for adults who want to know the steps they need to take to become a Catholic. The number of people who attend the Inquiry/Information Session is somewhat dependent on the number of personal invitations given. Is there someone to whom you could issue an invitation to attend the RCIA Information Session to be held in October?

 * As usual the Parish Bulletin is available. All are encouraged to take the Bulletin home and to investigate with whom you could share your Bulletin. Placing the Bulletin on the lounge room coffee table or on the fridge door may make it available to a visiting relative or neighbour. By baptism we are called to share the ‘good news’.

Luke 14:25-33

1 The passage is a call to both radical and practical discipleship. When have you found that in order to achieve a certain objective you had to make it a priority, and then take the practical steps necessary to reach your goal? What were the benefits to you when you did this?

“My life is like a drink offering being poured out on the altar. I have fought well. I have finished the race, and I have been faithful”
2 Timothy 4:6-7.

Living the Christian life fully as disciples of Christ can be both joyful and rewarding, while at the same time being challenging and sometimes difficult. Be persistent, patient and persevere! It has its rewards both in this life and in the life to come.

About Liturgy — Intercessory prayer PDF Print E-mail

prayerWhen we read gospels such as this Sunday's we could easily become discouraged at the demands of faithful discipleship. Although Jesus speaks in metaphors, he also is making clear to us that following him will cost us dearly. One way we gain the strength to be faithful is through prayer — for ourselves and for other disciples.
